WHAT HAPPENS IN HEAVEN WHEN WE PRAY?

I dreamt that I wentto Heaven and an angel was showing me around. We walked side-by-sideinside a large workroom filled with angels. My angel guide stopped in front ofthe first section and said, "This is the Receiving Section". Here, all petitions to God said in prayer are received.

I looked around in this area, and it was terribly busy with somany angels sorting out petitions written on voluminous paper sheets andscraps from people all over the world.

Then we moved on down a long corridor until we reached thesecond section.

The angel then said to me, "This is the Packaging and DeliverySection. Here, the graces and blessings the people asked for are processedand delivered to the living persons who asked for them." I noticedagain how busy it was there. There were many angels working hard at that station,since so many blessings had been requested and were being packaged for delivery toEarth.

Finally at the farthest end of the long corridor we stopped atthe door of a very small station. To my great surprise, only one angel wasseated there, idly doing nothing. "This is the AcknowledgmentSection, my angel friend quietly admitted to me. He seemedembarrassed." How is it that there is no work going on here? ‘Iasked.

”So sad," the angel sighed. "After people receivethe blessings that they asked for, very few send back acknowledgments"

"How does one acknowledge God's blessings“? I asked…

"Simple," the angel answered. Just say, "Thank you, Lord.”

A CARROT, AN EGG AND COFFEE

A youngwoman went to her mother and told her about her life and how things were sohard for her. She did not know how shewas going to make it and wanted to give up. She was tired of fighting and struggling. It seemed as one problem was solved, a newone arose.

Hermother took her to the kitchen. Shefilled three pots with water and placed each one on a high fire. Soon the pots came to boil. In the first, she placed carrots, in thesecond she placed eggs, and in the last she placed ground coffee beans. She let them sit and boil, without saying aword.

In abouttwenty minutes, she turned off the burners. She fished the carrots out and placed them in a bowl. She pulled theeggs out and placed them in another bowl. Then she ladled the coffee out and placed it in a third bowl.

Turningto her daughter, she asked, “Tell me what you see.”

“Carrots,eggs and coffee”, she replied.

Hermother brought her closer and asked her to feel the carrots. She did and noted that they were soft. The mother then asked the daughter to takean egg and break it. After pulling offthe shell, she observed the hard boiled egg.

Finally,the mother asked the daughter to sip the coffee.

Thedaughter smiled as she tasted its rich aroma.

Thedaughter then asked, “What does it mean?”

Hermother explained that each of these objects had faced the sameadversity……boiling water. Each reacteddifferently. The carrot went in strong,hard and unrelenting. However, afterbeing subjected to the boiling water, it softened and became weak. The egg had been fragile. Its thin outer shell had protected its liquidinterior, but after sitting through the boiling water, its inside becamehardened. The ground coffee beans wereunique, however. After they were in theboiling water, they had changed the water.

“Whichare you?” the mother asked the daughter. “When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean?”

Think of this:Which of these am I?

Am I thecarrot that seems strong, but with pain and adversity do I wilt and become softand lose my strength?

Am I theegg that starts with a malleable heart, but changes with the heat? Did I have a fluid spirit, but after a death,a breakup, a financial hardship or some other trial, have I become hardened andstiff? Does my shell look the same, buton the inside am I bitter and tough with a stiff spirit and hardened heart?

Or am Ilike the coffee bean? The bean actuallychanged the hot water, the very circumstances that bring the pain. When thewater gets hot, it releases the fragrance and the flavor. If you are like the bean, when things are attheir worst, you get better and change the situation around you. When the hour is the darkest and trials aretheir greatest, do you elevate yourself to another level? How do you handle adversity? Are you acarrot, an egg or a coffee bean?

The Ant and the Contact Lens -- a true story

Brenda was almost halfway to the top of the tremendousgranite cliff. She was standing on a ledge where she was taking a breatherduring this, her first rock climb. As she rested there, the safety rope snappedagainst her eye and knocked out her contact lens. "Great", shethought. "Here I am on a rock ledge, hundreds of feet from the bottom andhundreds of feet to the top of this cliff, and now my sight is blurry."

She looked and looked, hoping that somehow it had landed on the ledge. But itjust wasn't there.

She felt the panic rising in her, so she began praying. She prayed for calm,and she prayed that she may find her contact lens.

When she got to the top, a friend examined her eye and her clothing for thelens, but it was not to be found. Although she was calm now that she was at thetop, she was saddened because she could not clearly see across the range ofmountains. She thought of the bible verse "The eyes of the Lord run to andfro throughout the whole earth."

She thought, "Lord, You can see all these mountains. You know every stoneand leaf, and You know exactly where my contact lens is. Please help me."

Later, whenthey had hiked down the trail to the bottom of the cliff they met another partyof climbers just starting up the face of the cliff. One of them shouted out,"Hey, you guys! Anybody lose a contact lens?"

Well, that would be startling enough, but you know why the climber saw it? Anant was moving slowly across a twig on the face of the rock, carrying it!

The story doesn't end there. Brenda's father is a cartoonist. When she told himthe incredible story of the ant, the prayer, and the contact lens, he drew acartoon of an ant lugging that contact lens with the caption, "Lord, Idon't know why You want me to carry this thing. I can't eat it, and it'sawfully heavy. But if this is what You want me to do, I'll carry it forYou."

I think it would do all of us some good to say, "God, I don't know why Youwant me to carry this load. I can see no good in it and it's awfully heavy.But, if You want me to carry it, I will."

God doesn't call the qualified, He qualifies the called.

Yes, I do love GOD. He is my source of existence and my Savior. He keepsme functioning each and every day. Without Him, I am nothing, but with Him....Ican do all things through Christ which strengthens me. (Phil. 4:13)

How rich you are ???

A rich landowner named Carl often rodearound his vast estate so he could congratulate himself on his great wealth.

One day while riding around his estate on his favorite horse, he saw Hans, anold tenant farmer. Hans was sitting under a tree when Carl rode by.

Hans said, 'I was just thanking God for my food.'
Carl protested, 'If that is all I had to eat, I wouldn't feel like givingthanks.'
Hans replied, 'God has given me everything I need, and I am thankful for it.'

The old farmer added, 'It is strange you should come by today because I had adream last night. In my dream a voice told me, 'The richest man in the valleywill die tonight.' I don't know what it means, but I thought I ought to tellyou.'
Carl snorted, 'Dreams are nonsense,' and galloped away, but he could not forgetHans' words: 'The richest man in the valley will die tonight.'

He was obviously the richest man in the valley, so he invited his doctor to hishouse that evening.

Carl told the doctor what Hans had said. After a thorough examination, thedoctor told the wealthy landowner, 'Carl, you are as strong and healthy as ahorse. There is no way you are going to die tonight.'

Nevertheless, for assurance, the doctor stayed with Carl, and they played cardsthrough the night.

The doctor left the next morning and Carl apologized for becoming so upset overthe old man's dream.

At about nine o'clock, a messenger arrived at Carl's door.

'What is it?' Carl demanded.

The messenger explained, 'It's about old Hans. He died last night in his sleep.'

Being rich has nothing to do with money orpossessions. But it has everything to do with having a relationship with God.

God's Existence...

A man went to abarbershop to have his hair cut and his beard trimmed. As the barber began towork, they began to have a good conversation and talked about so many thingsand various subjects. When they eventually touched on the subject of God, thebarber said: "I don't believe that God exists."

"Why do you say that?" asked the customer.

"Well, you just have to go out in the street to realize that God doesn'texist. Tell me, if God exists, would there be so many sick people? Would therebe abandoned children? If God existed, there would be neither suffering norpain. I can't imagine a loving God who would allow all of these things."

The customer thought for a moment, but didn't respond because he didn't want tostart an argument. The barber finished his job and the customer left the shop.Just after he left the barbershop, he saw a man in the street with long,stringy, dirty hair and an untrimmed beard. He looked dirty and unkempt. Thecustomer turned back and entered the barber shop again and he said to thebarber:

"You know what? Barbers do not exist."

"How can you say that?" asked the surprised barber.

"I am here, and I am a barber. And I just worked on you!"

"No!" the customer exclaimed. "Barbers don't exist because ifthey did, there would be no people with dirty long hair and untrimmed beards,like that man outside.

"Ah, but barbers DO exist! That's what happens when people do not come tome."

"Exactly!" affirmed the customer. "That's the point! God, too,DOES exist! Because people do not look to God for help is why there's so muchpain and suffering in the world."

Today I willmake a difference. I will begin by controlling my thoughts. A person is theproduct of his thoughts. I want to be happy and hopeful. Therefore, I will havethoughts that are happy and hopeful. I refuse to be victimized by mycircumstances. I will not let petty inconveniences such as stoplights, longlines, and traffic jams be my masters. I will avoid negativism and gossip.Optimism will be my companion, and victory will be my hallmark.

Today I willmake a difference.

I will be grateful for the twenty-four hours that are before me.Time is a precious commodity. I refuse to allow what little time I have to becontaminated by self-pity, anxiety, or boredom. I will face this day with thejoy of a child and the courage of a giant. I will drink each minute as thoughit is my last. When tomorrow comes, today will be gone forever. While it ishere, I will use it for loving and giving.

Today I will make a difference.

I will not let past failures haunt me. Even though my life isscarred with mistakes, I refuse to rummage through my trash heap of failures. Iwill admit them. I will correct them. I will press on. I live in my heart

When I travel on business, I like to talk to the taxi drivers who take me from the airport to my hotel, or to a convention center, or to a restaurant. Taxi drivers are often immigrants with interesting personal histories and unusual cultural backgrounds. I ask them how long they've been in America, how they chose which city to live in, and what they like best about where they live. Of course, I also ask them for advice on good local restaurants and any special attractions they'd recommend to a visitor. I've had some great experiences on my travels, thanks to the advice of taxi drivers!

On one trip about ten years ago, I was making conversation with the taxi driver, asking him my usual questions about how he came to live where he lived. Then I asked him a hypothetical question: "If you could live anywhere in the world-and if money was no object-where would you live?"

Without hesitating even for a second, he replied, "I live in my heart. So it really doesn't matter where my body lives. If I am happy inside, then I live in paradise, no matter where my residence is."

I felt humbled and a little foolish for my question. Of course he was right-happiness is an inside job. He had reminded me of something I already knew, but had forgotten. If you can't find happiness inside yourself, you'll never find it in the outside world, no matter where you move. Wherever you go, there you are. You take yourself with you.

I am grateful for the wisdom of that taxi driver. And I'm grateful for all the wisdom others have shared with me about how to be happy.

A Piece of My Heart

One day a young man was standing in the middle of the town proclaiming that he had the most beautiful heart in the whole valley. A large crowd gathered and they all admired his heart for it was perfect. There was not a mark or a flaw in it. Yes, they all agreed it truly was the most beautiful heart they had ever seen. The young man was very proud and boasted more loudly about his beautiful heart.

Suddenly, an old man appeared at the front of the crowd and said "Why, your heart is not nearly as beautiful as mine." The crowd and the young man looked at the old man's heart. It was beating strongly, but it was full of scars. It had places where pieces had been removed and other pieces put in, but they didn't fit quite right and there were several jagged edges. In fact, in some places there were deep gouges where whole pieces were missing.

The people stared -- how can he say his heart is more beautiful, they thought? The young man looked at the old man's heart and saw its state and laughed. "You must be joking," he said. "Compare your heart with mine. Mine is perfect and yours is a mess of scars and tears."

"Yes," said the old man, "yours is perfect looking but I would never trade with you. You see, every scar represents a person to whom I have given my love - I tear out a piece of my heart and give it to them, and often they give me a piece of their heart which fits into the empty place in my heart, but because the pieces aren't exact, I have some rough edges, which I cherish, because they remind me of the love we shared."

"Sometimes I have given pieces of my heart away, and the other person hasn't returned a piece of his heart to me. These are the empty gouges -- giving love, is taking a chance. Although these gouges are painful, they stay open, reminding me of the love I have for these people too, and I hope someday they may return and fill the space I have waiting. So now do you see what true beauty is?"

The young man stood silently with tears running down his cheeks. He walked up to the old man, reached into his perfect young and beautiful heart and ripped a piece out. He offered it to the old man with trembling hands. The old man took his offering, placed it in his heart and then took a piece from his old scarred heart and placed it in the wound in the young man's heart. It fit, but not perfectly, as there were some jagged edges. The young man looked at his heart, not perfect anymore but more beautiful than ever, since love from the old man's heart flowed into his.

REAL VERSUS FAKE EMPEROR

This is the life history of an Emperor who lived about 600 years back. His name was Ibrahim Adham, and he was the ruler of Bukhara, now part of Uzbekistan. He was a wonderful monarch, greatly loved by his people. But his greatness also made him ask basic questions about life, many of them the same that had troubled many a seeker. Sitting on his throne, he often used to ponder over questions of deep philosophy, such as:

" What is life? Why are we here? Is there a God, and if so why is He hidden from us?"..et al.

One day when he was so engaged in introspection, he heard a noise on his terrace. When he went to investigate upstairs, he was astonished to find a herdsman with a stick searching for something all over the terrace.

"Who are you, and how did you get to this place outwitting all my palace guards?" the emperor asked.

"I am just an ordinary farmer who has lost his camel, and I have come here looking for it", replied the herdsman.

The king was even more astounded: "What? You lost your camel, and you managed to enter the palace and get to this most guarded part of it in the hope of locating it? But tell me, is it not very foolish of you to be looking for a lost camel in such a place? Whoever heard of a camel straying onto the terrace of a palace, that too one guarded by hundreds of soldiers?".

The herdsman calmly replied: " No more foolish than looking for an answer to life's basic questions while sitting on a golden throne", and vanished into thin air!

This encounter shook Ibrahim Adham to the core, and he immediately left his throne in search of the Truth. He traveled as a mendicant from place to place, until finally he heard that a great mystic named Kabir lived on the banks of the river Gangaa in Varaanasi in what was then known as Hindostan, and so made his way there (these days when we need planes and trains to go from place to place, it is so difficult to believe how easily people criss-crossed continents before these inventions were made! Why? our own avataara-purusha Adi Sankara before he was 32 had covered the length and breadth of our vast nation!).

Kabir was a weaver by profession, and lived a hand-to-mouth existence off his daily earning as a weaver. He had an ashram where his disciples lived with and learnt from him. Many of the disciples were extremely rich, but he would take not a penny from any of them to feed himself or his family, consisting of his wife Loi, his son Kamal and daughter Kamali.

When Ibrahim Adham reached the door of the ashram and knocked, Kabir opened the door and asked. " Yes, what do you want?.

"Sir," replied Ibrahim Adham, bowing with respect," I have heard that you teach the Truth here, and I have come a long way to learn it. I will be ever grateful if you can take me into your ashram and teach me."

"Who are you?, asked Kabir.

"I am, actually, the Emperor of Bukhara, but I have given up my throne in order to search for the Truth.", replied Ibrahim.

"Sorry," said Kabir," I have no room for emperors here,." and closed the door.

Ibrahim then ruminated over what had happened, and what he had said. He then knocked again, re-introduced himself as Ibrahim rather than as Emperor, and was let in, on condition that he would do the job of the scavenger at the ashram.

And so for years Ibrahim was the dutiful scavenger at Kabir's ashram – sweeping and swabbing the floors, cleaning out the toilets. After six years passed, Kabir's wife Loi requested her husband to bestow the gift of initiation on Ibrahim (initiation I believe is the first step in imparting the deep mysteries of spiritual education).

"No,' answered Kabir, "he is not yet ready. His mind still needs to be cleansed of the impression that he is born to rule over others."

"How can you say that?", asked Loi," it is now six years that he has done all the menial jobs around here, surely that earlier impression has been wiped out."

" All right, carry out the following test." said Kabir. " Collect all the human waste one day, stand on the terrace, and when Ibrahim is passing by downstairs, throw it on him, hide yourself, and come and report to me what he says."

Loi did as instructed, and saw Ibrahim's face turn livid at the insult. He looked up and around, and not finding anyone, muttered to himself, "If only this was Bukhara, I would have given this person what he deserves."

Loi went and faithfully reported this to Kabir, who remarked," See, this is what I meant. He needs to cleanse his mind further."

Another six years passed, and one day Kabir called Loi and asked her to repeat what she had done to Ibrahim. This time Ibrahim said .with gratitude written all over his face," I do not know who did this, but I am really thankful to whoever has done it, for it helps me know my real status."

Kabir knew that by then Ibrahim had done the required purification of the mind needed before initiation can be bestowed. Ibrahim was therefore initiated into the spiritual mysteries, and turned out to be one of Kabir's best disciples. Before long he had reached the ultimate in the ladder of spiritual progress – attainment of one-ness with the Supreme.

Kabir then sent him back to Bukhara, where he was living the life of an ordinary man when one day his former Commander-in-Chief spotted him lying on the banks of a famous river. The Commander-in-Chief implored Ibrahim to come back to the capital and sit on the throne again, adding, "we in the army are ever ready to carry out every single one of your orders".

"Don't promise what you cannot fulfill," said Ibrahim. This statement hurt the Commander-in-Chief very much, for he thought Ibrahim was questioning his loyalty, and so he replied," Sir, please command, and your wish shall be instantly fulfilled." ( See what I meant my fauji connexion?)

Ibrahim then took a small pin, and threw it into the flowing waters of the river. "All right, then, retrieve that pin for me," he told the Commander.

The river was a deep one, the water was flowing very fast, and the pin had obviously sunk to the bottom. To retrieve that very pin was humanly impossible, and the Commander knew it.

"You want a pin, Sir – I will get you a thousand pins exactly the same as the one you threw," he offered.

"No, no, I do not want anything other than that very pin. You said my wish will be your command, so get me that pin." said Ibrahim.

The Commander was crest fallen, and protested, "Sir, you are asking for something that even an army of brigades of brave soldiers cannot accomplish. God alone knows how far that particular pin has been swept by the swirling waters of the river, which is so deep that diving to its bottom will require great talent and courage. Even if a thousand soldiers were to do that and search all over the riverbed, it is unlikely they will be able to locate and retrieve that very pin."

"Okay, then, watch," said Ibrahim, and 'applied his attention' – a term used by the mystics (I am told) to refer to the high levels of mental concentration that the higher forms of yoga give them access to. On his so doing, a fish dived into the river, picked up that very pin from its bed, swam to the shore with it, then walked on the beach, deposited the pin at Ibrahim's feet, walked back to the river, and went back into the waters.

The Commander-in-Chief stared in total disbelief at what he was witnessing.

"What I have learnt at the feet of Kabir," Ibrahim explained to him," is that those we call Emperor in this world are fake Emperors, in fact, are impostors. The world does not operate at their command, as we mistakenly believe, but they who operate at the command of their selfish egos. They are slaves of the first order, not emperors. The only way to become an emperor – a real emperor, who has mastered the Laws that govern this universe - is to learn to still one's mind, for which the pre-requisite is to get over our ego-centric preoccupations. That is why Kabir insisted that I spend years as a scavenger in his ashram. It was a preliminary training to the secrets of the inner worlds that lie within each of us. Anyone who is willing to let go the ego can get trained in this wonderful Science of the Soul, which makes us real Emperors, for then we are one with the Supreme Power."

The Commander-in-Chief realized that Ibrahim had become a Saint, one who had achieved Godhood, and fell at his feet.

The story is so positive - It’s nice to read and follow.

A little girl walked to and from school daily. Though the weather thatmorning was questionable and clouds were forming, she made her daily trek tothe elementary school.

As the afternoon progressed, the winds whipped up, along with thunder andlightning. The mother of the little girl felt concerned that her daughter wouldbe frightened as she walked home from school and she herself feared that theelectrical storm might harm her child. In Phoenix , Arizona, a 26-year-old mother stared down at her 6 year old son, who was dying of terminal leukemia.

Although her heart was filled with sadness, she also had a strong feeling of determination. Like any parent, she wanted her son to grow up and fulfill all his dreams. Now that was no longer possible.

The leukemia would see to that. But she still wanted her son's dream to come true.

She took her son's hand and asked, Billy, did you ever think about what you wanted to be once you grew up ?

Did you ever dream and wish what you would do with your life ?'

Mommy, 'I always wanted to be a fireman when I grew up.'

Mom smiled back and said, 'Let's see if we can make your wish come true.'

Later that day she went to her local fire Department in Phoenix , Arizona , where she met Fireman Bob, who had a heart as big as Phoenix .

She explained her son's final wish and asked if it might be possible to give her 6 year-old son a ride around the block on a fire engine.

Fireman Bob said, 'Look, we can do better than that. If you'll have your son ready at seven o'clock Wednesday morning, we'll make him an honorary Fireman for the whole day. He can come down to the fire station, eat with us, go out on all the fire calls, the whole nine yards !

And if you'll give us his sizes, we'll get a real fire uniform for him, with a real fire hat - not a toy one with the emblem of the Phoenix Fire Department on it, a yellow slicker like we wear and rubber boots.'

'They're all manufactured right here in Phoenix , so we can get them fast.'

Three days later Fireman Bob picked up Billy, dressed him in his uniform and escorted him from his hospital bed to the waiting hook and ladder truck.

Billy got to sit on the back of the truck and help steer it back to the fire station. He was in heaven.

There were three fire calls in Phoenix that day and Billy got to go out on all three calls.

He rode in the different fire engines, the Paramedic's' van, and even the fire chief's car. He was also videotaped for the local news program.

Having his dream come true, with all the love and attention that was lavished upon him, so deeply touched Billy, that he lived three months longer than any doctor thought possible.

One night all of his vital signs began to drop dramatically and the head nurse, who believed in the hospice concept - that no one should die alone, began to call the family members to the hospital.

Then she remembered the day Billy had spent as a Fireman, so she called the Fire Chief and asked if it would be possible to send a fireman in uniform to the hospital to be with Billy as he made his transition.

The chief replied, 'We can do better than that. We'll be there in five minutes. Will you please do me a favor ?

When you hear the sirens screaming and see the lights flashing, will you announce over the PA system that there is not a fire? 'It's the department coming to see one of its finest members one more time. And will you open the window to his room?

About five minutes later a hook and ladder truck arrived at the hospital and extended its ladder up to Billy's third floor open window --------

16 fire-fighters climbed up the ladder into Billy's room!

With his mother's permission, they hugged him and held him and told him how much they LOVED him.

With his dying breath, Billy looked up at the fire chief and said, 'Chief, am I really a fireman now?'

'Billy, you are, and The Head Chief, Jesus, is holding your hand,' the chief said.

With those words, Billy smiled and said, 'I know, He's been holding my hand all day, and the angels have been singing.'

He closed his eyes one last time.

When students were asked to walk on a log of wood kept on the ground, they had no problem doing so and in fact, found it very funny. However, when the same was kept 15 feet over the ground between two trees, a component in them was introduced – FEAR.

Initially, a few daredevils tried to walk and succeeded – of-course with the help of a rope tied over their head, which helped them to get the secure feeling. Some just wouldn’t budge.

On the surface, courage may look cool and easy and certain, but underneath, it's more likely to be hot, uncertain, uneasy, messy. People often say, "I thought I was nuts" or "People thought I was crazy" or "It made no sense." But I did it anyway.

Then, after a class on blasting inhibitions and showing them how safe it really was, everyone was able to go through.

They had learnt the art of shattering their FEAR. They experienced a new feeling – FEAR as an ‘energizer’ – not as a ‘paralyzer’.

And then, later on they said - they were shy or timid or cowardly. "But I did it anyway."

When it comes to courage, confidence is not the absence of uncertainty, doubt, fear, timidity, or shyness, but rather the willingness to act in spite of them.

Confidence in a courageous moment is not always what it seems to be. While some people exude a ballistic kind of confidence and others a calm confidence, timid and shy were words we hear frequently.

So let us all experience this new feeling – FEAR not as a ‘paralyzer’ but a “ENERGIZER”

The boy is surprised, but does not understand. Then the father explains:

"People call this ECHO, but really this is LIFE. It gives you back everything you say or do.

Our life is simply a reflection of our actions. If you want more love in the world, create more love in your heart. If you want more competence in your team, improve your competence.

This relationship applies to everything, in all aspects of life.

" Life will give you back everything you have given to it."

During the days of "Gautam Buddha" one young boy was addicted to bad habits and would behave very rudely with one and all. He began being looked upon as a criminal because of his anti social activities.

His mother tried her best to try and reform him, but could not succeed. Finally she decided to take her son to "Gautam Buddha" to seek his blessings. With great difficulty she convinced her son to meet "Buddha".

Both of them went to forest where Buddha was sitting under a tree doing meditation. The mother fell at his feet and began crying.

Buddha" asked her " Why are you crying?"

The mother said “My son is going on the road to self destruction and on the way to becoming a hardened criminal”. Please do something. Buddha looked at her son and said that it was too late now and that this young man was going to die in one day". Saying so, Buddha left the place.

Both mother and son were shocked to hear that and returned home feeling very low and depressed indeed and with neither being able to sleep that whole night with the fear of death hanging above them like the proverbial “Sword of Damocles”.

23 hours went by, with just one hour left in the boy’s life, when they were paid a visit by Buddha.

Buddha asked the young boy "Have you indulged in any cheating /criminal activity/theft during these 23 hours ?"

The young man said "No"

"Did you tell lies?"Again the young man replied in the negative.

Buddha asked "What you did these 23 hours then? "

The young boy said "Since death is fast approaching me, I have been regretting all the sins that I have committed and have come to realize how I wasted my valuable life.I guess this realization has come to me way too late for me to do anything about it."

Buddha said " Don't worry. Your death is not about to happen now, it has been postponed. Spend the rest of your life in as meaningful and fulfilling a manner as possible and be kind to the others."

Moral of the Story:

Death is certain to all of us. It may come at any moment,in any shape and for any reason. Let us live with human values doing good things and being helpful to others.

Two little boys, ages 8 and 10, are excessively mischievous.

They are always getting into trouble and their parents know all about it. If any mischief occurs in their town, the two boys are probably involved.

The boys' mother heard that a preacher in town had been successful in disciplining children, so she asked if he would speak with her boys. The preacher agreed, but he asked to see them individually.

So the mother sent the 8 year old first, in the morning, with the older boy to see the preacher in the afternoon.

The preacher, a huge man with a booming voice, sat the younger boy down and asked him sternly, "Do you know where God is, son?"

The boy's mouth dropped open, but he made no response, sitting there wide- eyed with his mouth hanging open.

So the preacher repeated the question in an even sterner tone, "Where is God?!"

Again, the boy made no attempt to answer. The preacher raised his voice even more and shook his finger in the boy's face and bellowed, "Where is God?!"

The boy screamed and bolted from the room, ran directly home and dove into his closet, slamming the door behind him.

When his older brother found him in the closet, he asked, "What happened?"

The younger brother, gasping for breath, replied, "We are in BIG trouble this time.

The missing watch

There once was a farmer who discovered that he had lost his watch in the barn.
It was no ordinary watch because it had sentimental value for him. After searching high and low among the hay for a long while; he gave up and enlisted the help of a group of children playing outside the barn.

He promised them that the person who found it would be rewarded.

Hearing this, the children hurried inside the barn, went through and around the entire stack of hay but still could not find the watch. Just when the farmer was about to give up looking for his watch, a little boy went up to him and asked to be given another chance.

The farmer looked at him and thought, "Why not? After all, this kid looks sincere enough."

So the farmer sent the little boy back in the barn. After a while the little boy came out with the watch in his hand! The farmer was both happy and surprised and so he asked the boy how he succeeded where the rest had failed.

The boy replied, "I did nothing but sit on the ground and listen. In the silence, I heard the ticking of the watch and just looked for it in that direction."

Moral: A peaceful mind can think better than a worked up mind.

Allow a few minutes of silence to your mind every day, and see, how sharply it helps you to set your life the way you expect it to be...!

Next Autumn, when you see geese heading south for the winter, flying in a “V” formation, you might consider what science has discovered as to why they fly that way. As each bird flaps its wings, it creates an uplift for the bird immediately following. By flying in a “V” formation, the whole flock adds at least 71 percent greater flying range than if each bird flew on its own.

People who share a common direction and sense of community can get where they are going more quickly and easily, because they are travelling on the thrust of one another.

When a goose falls out of formation, it suddenly feels the drag and resistance of trying to go it alone and quickly gets back into formation to take advantage of the lifting power of the bird in front.

If we have the sense of a goose, we will stay in formation with those people who are heading the same way we are.

When the head goose gets tired, it rotates back in the wing and another goose flies point.

It is sensible to take turns doing demanding jobs, whether with people or with geese flying south.

Geese honk from behind to encourage those up front to keep up their speed.

What message do we give when we honk from behind?

Finally – and this is important – when a goose gets sick or is wounded by gunshot, and falls out of the formation, two other geese fall out with that goose and follow it down to lend help and protection. They stay with the fallen goose until it is able to fly or until it dies; and only then do they launch out on their own, or with another formation to catch up with their own group.

If we have the sense of a goose, we will stand by each other like that.

Father was a hardworking man who delivered bread as a living to support his wife and three children. He spent all his evenings after work attending classes, hoping to improve himself so that he could one day find a better paying job. Except for Sundays, Father hardly ate a meal together with his family. He worked and studied very hard because he wanted to provide his family with the best money could buy.

Whenever the family complained that he was not spending enough time with them, he reasoned that he was doing all this for them. But he often yearned to spend more time with his family.

The day came when the examination results were announced. To his joy, Father passed, and with distinctions too! Soon after, he was offered a good job as a senior supervisor which paid handsomely.

Like a dream come true, Father could now afford to provide his family with life’s little luxuries like nice clothing, fine food and vacation abroad.

However, the family still did not get to see father for most of the week. He continued to work very hard, hoping to be promoted to the position of manager. In fact, to make himself a worthily candidate for the promotion, he enrolled for another course in the open university.

Again, whenever the family complained that he was not spending enough time with them, he reasoned that he was doing all this for them. But he often yearned to spend more time with his family.

Father’s hard work paid off and he was promoted. Jubilantly, he decided to hire a maid to relieve his wife from her domestic tasks. He also felt that their three-room flat was no longer big enough, it would be nice for his family to be ablt to enjoy the facilities and comfort of a condominium. Having experienced the rewards of his hard work many times before, Father resolved to further his studies and work at being promoted again. The family still did not get to see much of him. In fact, sometimes Father had to work on Sundays entertaining clients. Again, whenever the family complained that he was not spending enough time with them, he reasoned that he was doing all this for them. But he often yearned to spend more time with his family.

As expected, Father’s hard work paid off again and he bought a beautiful condominium overlooking the coast of Singapore. On the first Sunday evening at their new home, Father declared to his family that he decided not to take anymore courses or pursue any more promotions. From then on he was going to devote more time to his family.

Father did not wake up the next day.

A ticket collector in a train found an old worn out wallet in a compartment full of many people. He looked inside to find the name of its owner. There was no clue. All that there was in it, was some money and a picture of Krishna. He held it up and asked, “Who does this wallet belong to?”

An old man said, “That’s my wallet, please give it to me.” The ticket collector said, “You’ll have to prove that it is yours. Only then I can hand it over to you.” The old man smiled a toothless smile and said. “It has a picture of Krishna in it.” The ticket collector said, “That is no proof; anyone can have a picture of Krishna in his wallet. What is special about that? Why is your picture not there in it?”

The old man took a deep breath and said, “Let me tell you why my picture is not there in it. My father gave this wallet to me when I was in school. I used to get a small sum as pocket money then. I had kept a picture of my parents in it.

When I was a teenager I was greatly enamoured by my good looks. I removed my parent’s picture and put in, one of my own. I loved to see my own face and my thick black hair. Some years later, I got married. My wife was very beautiful and I loved her a lot. I replaced my own picture in this wallet with a picture of her. I spent hours gazing at her pretty face.

When my first child was born, my life started a new chapter. I shortened my working hours, to play with my baby. I went late to work and returned home early too. Obviously, my baby’s picture occupied the prized position in my wallet.”

The old man’s eyes brimmed with tears as he went on. “My parents passed away many years ago. Last year my wife too left her mortal coil. My son; my only son is too busy with his family. He has no time to look after me. All that I had ever held close to my heart is far, far away from my reach now. Now I have put this picture of Krishna in my wallet. It is only now that I have realized that He is the eternal companion. He will never leave me. Alas! If only I had realized this before. If only I had loved the Lord all these years, with the same intensity as I loved my family, I would not have been so lonely today!”

The collector quietly gave the wallet to the old man. When the train stopped at the next station, the ticket collector went to the book stall at the platform and asked the salesman, “Do you have any pictures of God? I need a small one to put in my wallet!”

I LOVE MANGOES

A religious congregation was going on. The preacher had delivered a long discourse yesterday. He had emphasized the need to give up attachment. He told the people assembled to live simple lives. He also told them of the importance of Maun i.e. observing silence.

Today, the preacher sat in Maun, while his followers sat around him, waiting for him to break his silence. One follower walked in with ten baskets full of ripe yellow mangoes. He said, “Guruji, I have a mango orchard. I have brought you the best of my crop this year. Please accept them.” Guruji smiled. He patted the man on his back and blessed him. He signalled to his attendants to distribute the mangoes amongst the devotees who were waiting outside.

There were many people present. One by one, the attendants picked up the baskets and distributed mangoes to all the followers sitting in the compound. Guruji was observing Maun, so he quietly watched everything, smiling happily. When the boys picked up the ninth basket, Guruji's smile vanished. He made a signal to the boys to stop them, but they were too busy to take notice.

They returned and picked up the last basket to take away for distribution. Guruji signalled frantically to them, to leave that basket alone, but no one seemed to be looking his way.

The boys started distributing the mangoes. Guruji tried in vain to catch their attention but in vain. When just a couple of mangoes were left, Guruji couldn't contain himself. He got up and ran towards them, “You fools, at least leave some for me. I love mangoes too!” His love for mangoes forced him to break his silence.

Baba tells us that it is only in silence that you can hear the voice of God. But at the same time, of what use is it to silence the tongue, if you can not still the wandering mind? If there is noise in your mind, it is useless to force the tongue into silence.

Baba says: Bend the body, Mend the senses, And end the mind.

If you think you can't do something flying or what ever, watch this.

I was very moved by this young ladies ablities, but may be her attitude was even more impressive.

This young woman, Jessica Cox was born with out arms and learned to fly. As a former flight instructor and a professional airline pilot. I can tell you this is really an inspirational thing to everyone, much less pilots. Way to go Jessica. Watching her fly so smoothly and confidently is very impressive (even with two arms). Trust me I know, nicely done. Wish I had this video when I was teaching full time.

The plane she is flying is called an Ercoupe (pronounced air-coupe) which does have rudder pedals. The Ercoupe was made in the late 40's and early 50's. The unique thing about Ercoupe is it's one of the few airplanes to be made and certified with out pedals. With out rudder pedals Jessica is free to use her feet as hands.

There have been other handicapped pilots who convert and modify controls of other planes but Jessica's plane is stock. I belive shi is the only one to fly with no arms in a stock or modified plane of any kind.

Dear Friends and members,

There are many different aspects that live inside of us and two of them I respectfully dubbed the Dreamer and Doubter. When it comes to pursuing our dreams, The Dreamer is often gung ho while the Doubter can provide a laundry list of concerns and issues.

After a speech in Rome, a woman with a beautiful accent asked me to tell her one of my personal dreams. Assuming I'd never see her again, I decided to share a dream I had never spoken out loud, one I had kept such a good secret that even I was beginning to forget it.

"My dream is to spend the summer writing in the Greek Islands," I said all in one breath.
She handed me her card and replied, "I have a villa in Greece. Why don't you come as my guest?"
I was floored and reminded that amazing things happen when we share our dreams. I was elated, or more accurately, part of me was. Here's a peek inside my head. See if this kind of interchange sounds familiar.

Dreamer: I am so excited!
Doubter: Not me. I don't like this at all. It's far away and could be dangerous.
Dreamer: Nonsense. This is my dream handed to me on a silver platter.
Doubter/Realist (they're close cousins): Who is going to run your business while you're away?
Dreamer: My fabulous team whom I completely trust.
Doubter: Well, how's it going to look to your clients that you are out of the country for three months?
Dreamer: I think as a Dream Coach, it's going to look pretty good.

When you are stuck, procrastinating or worrying, chances are your Doubter has taken over. If ignored, it can sabotage your dreams. So how do you deal with it? Turn the volume down a notch and the Doubter simply becomes the Realist, the part that wants to know where the time and money will come from for your venture.

But before you turn down the Doubter, hear from it. It will give you valuable information such as a list of obstacles that you can manage later. Freedom comes as you appreciate its wisdom and insight rather than judging it as the enemy.

If you never deal with your doubt and you meet another Doubter on the road, their doubt will magnify yours. However, if you have worked with your own doubt, next time a Doubter challenges you, by contrast it will be the opportunity to deepen your commitment and conviction to your dream.

The Tiger...

A teacher and his student were walking from one village to another, when they suddenly heard a roar behind them. Turning their gaze in the direction of the roar they saw a big tiger following them. The first thing the student wanted to do was to run away, but as he has been studying and practicing self-discipline, he was able to halt himself, waiting to see what his teacher was going to do.

"What shall we do Master?" Asked the student.

The teacher looked at the student and answered in a calm voice: "There are several options. We can fill our minds with paralyzing fear so that we cannot move, and let the tiger do with us whatever pleases it. We can faint. We can run away, but then it will run after us. We can fight with it, but physically it is stronger than us."

"We can pray to god to save us. We can choose to influence the tiger with the power of our mind, if our concentration is strong enough. We can send it love. We can also concentrate and meditate on our inner power, and on the fact that we are one with the entire universe, including the tiger, and in this way influence its soul."

"Which option do you choose?"

"You are the Master. You tell me what to do. We haven't much time", responded the student.

The master turned his gaze fearlessly towards the tiger, emptied his mind from all thoughts, and entered samadhi (a kind of trance). In his consciousness he embraced everything in the universe including the tiger. In this deep meditation the consciousness of the teacher became one with consciousness of the tiger.

Meanwhile the student started to shiver with fear, as the tiger was already quite close, ready to make a leap at them. He was amazed at how his teacher could stay so calm and detached in the face of danger.

Meanwhile the teacher continued to meditate without fear. After a little while, the tiger gradually lowered its head and tail and went away.

The student asked his teacher in astonishment, "What did you do?"

"Nothing. I just cleared all thoughts from my mind and united myself in spirit with the tiger. We became united in peace on the spiritual level. The tiger sensed the inner calmness, peace, and unity and felt no threat or need to express violence, and so walked away."

"When the mind is silent and calm, its peace is automatically transmitted to everything and everyone around, influencing them deeply", concluded the teacher.

Why are some people more successful than others? Why do some people make more money, live happier lives and accomplish much more in the same number of years than the great majority?
I started out in life with few advantages. I did not graduate from high school. I worked at menial jobs. I had limited education, limited skills and a limited future.
And then I began asking, “Why are some people more successful than others?” This question changed my life.

It turned out that his name was Kop Kopmeyer. As it happened, I immediately knew who he was. He was a legend in the field of success and achievement. Kop Kopmeyer had written four large books, each of which contained 250 success principles that he had derived from more than fifty years of research and study. I had read all four books from cover to cover, more than once.
After we had chatted for awhile, I asked him the question that many people in this situation would ask, “Of all the one thousand success principles that you have discovered, which do you think is the most important?”
He smiled at me with a twinkle in his eye, as if he had been asked this question many times, and replied, without hesitating, “The most important success principle of all was stated by Thomas Huxley many years ago. He said, 'Do what you should do, when you should do it, whether you feel like it or not.'”
He went on to say, “There are 999 other success principles that I have found in my reading and experience, but without self-discipline, none of them work.”
Self-discipline is the key to personal greatness. It is the magic quality that opens all doors for you, and makes everything else possible. With self-discipline, the average person can rise as far and as fast as his talents and intelligence can take him. But without self-discipline, a person with every blessing of background, education and opportunity will seldom rise above mediocrity.
In the pages ahead I will describe seven areas of your life where the practice of self-discipline will be key to your success. There lived in Nepal a person named Prashanta. Prashanta was very skilled in computers and made a lot of useful software that he used togive to his co-workers for free. His co-workers recognized his skill and used to praise him very highly, but Prashanta never seemed to be affected by their praise and would continue his simple ways.

One day there was a crisis in the IT department. They desperately needed software for extracting images from their old database and inserting into the new one. All of them suggested Prashanta to make it and he calmly agreed and set about making it. The finished product was very professional looking and worked wonderfully.

Everyone was pleased with the software and highly praised Prashanta, but he remained unaffected by their praise and would calmly thank them. Seeing his nonchalance a friend asked him how he could be so calm and unaffected when even the CEO himself was very pleased and excited about the software. "Don't you feel proud to have created such a fine piece of software? Asked his friend.

To his query Prashanta replied, "I am not the doer, I am simply the MEDIUM."
